Guidelines:
What is the Purpose of the District 112 Foundation Excellence in Education Awards Program (Teacher of the Year)? To honor and recognize teachers in Eastern Carver County Schools for innovation and excellence in education

Who is Eligible? Nominees must be a licensed teacher in Eastern Carver County Schools during the current school year. The teacher you nominate does not have to be your student’s current teacher.

Who can make a Nomination? Anyone can nominate a teacher (student, parent, teacher, principal/supervisor, community member). An individual may nominate only one person for the award each year. Teachers may not nominate themselves. Nominations are strongly encouraged to include one or more letters of support from among the following: colleague, parent, student, or community member

What are the Criteria used for Selecting the District 112 Foundation Excellence in Education Awards Finalists? Ideal candidates for these awards display the following characteristics:
● Have daily contact with students and inspire them to learn and achieve.
● Understand the individual needs of students, encourage their talents, and build confidence and skills.
● Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of subject matter and are able to share it effectively with students.
● Participate in making a positive contribution to the school community.
● Participate in and/or lead professional development while fostering cooperative relationships with colleagues.
● Actively support the mission and vision of Eastern Carver County Schools.

Major consideration is given to those nominees who have not been a Teacher of the Year finalist in the previous three years.

Please use the District 112 Foundation Excellence in Education Awards Program Nomination Form (Teacher of the Year) to submit your nomination. The deadline for nominations is March 24, 2023.

In order to help you prepare to complete the nomination form, please reference the following questions before opening the nomination form:

  • What is the teacher’s name?
  • What is the teacher’s email address?
  • In what school does the teacher teach?
  • What grades/subjects does the teacher teach?
  • Who is the principal for that school?
  • What is the principal’s email address?
  • Why are you nominating this teacher?
  • How does this teacher instill a desire to learn and achieve in his/her students? How does this teacher engage and challenge all students in the classroom? (Think about how this educator motivates students and encourages them to do their best.)
  • How has this teacher supported students with developing their academic and socioemotional skills to thrive in and outside of school? (Think about how this teacher engages the whole student, looking not just at academics, but emotional health, mental health, etc. Does this teacher go above and beyond to help students connect with peers and to make friends, etc.?)
  • How has this teacher demonstrated a thorough knowledge of subject matter and the ability to share it effectively with students? (What makes this teacher an expert in his or her subject matter? Do they bring in real-life experiences or tie learning to current events, etc.?)
  • How has he/she participated in making a positive contribution to the school community? (What does this teacher do to contribute to the field of education? What does this teacher do to make his/her school a better place? Does s/he coach a sport or lead an extracurricular club activity? Does s/he hold special WIN sessions for students like a game club, etc.?)
  • How has he/she demonstrated participation and leadership in professional development activities and fostered cooperative relationships with his/her colleagues? If you are a parent or student, you may need to ask other teachers and school staff or administration for input on this section. A letter of support – see below- may also provide this information. Entries that do not include an answer to this question may not score as well as those that include this information. (Does this teacher mentor other teachers or sit on any committees within the school? Does s/he attend continuing education classes to further his/her knowledge, etc.?)
  • Additionally, you may request letters of support to include with your nomination. These letters of support may be written by administration, fellow teachers, other parents, or students.
